Grizzlies have an excellent memory, particularly regarding where food sources are located, having good eyesight (much like humans), and excellent senses of hearing and of smell (better than a dog).
The grizzly bear is also known as the silver tip bear. Grizzlies are normally active animals that seek solitudes, but in coastal areas the grizzlies collect alongside streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds when the salmon are spawning. Every other year, females produce one to four young (commonly two). A sow is protective of her offspring and will attack if she thinks she or her cubs are threatened. When naturalist George Ord formally named the bear in 1815, he misunderstood the word as “grisly”, to produce its biological Latin name ”horribilis”. Grizzly bears are normally reclusive creatures. Grizzly bears are opportunistic feeders and will consume almost any available food including living or dead mammals or fish.
